National Tainan First Senior High School Gymnasium
National Tainan First Senior High School Gymnasium
Established nearly 100 years ago, National Tainan First Senior High School (TNFSH) is one of the most prestigious public high schools in Taiwan. The grade 10-12 institution typically only accepts students ranking in the top 3% of nationwide standardized testing. The small student body of just over 2,000 faces a rigorous academic program including both Chinese and English, statistics, calculus, physics, chemistry and biology. TNFSH has a strong track record in international academic competitions and graduates regularly attend top institutions of higher learning including numerous Ivy League universities, MIT and Caltech. TNFSH is located in Taiwan's oldest city, culturally-rich Tainan.
The new TNFSH gymnasium houses two full-size regulation basketball courts in addition to seating for 1,800, necessitating a column-free interior and long-span structural design. The rectangular building's structural system was designed like four bridges connected end-to-end at the corners, with the bridges lifting and supporting the floor slabs, and hence not requiring any supporting columns beneath. The structural system is a visible and integral part of the architectural design. The gymnasium features several other exercise and recreation facilities and was completed in June 2011. |
