The Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, more commonly known as Tzu Chi, is an international humanitarian organization providing charity, medical, educational and disaster-relief services through its network of volunteers. Tzu Chi was founded nearly 50 years ago with core values deeply rooted in Buddhism. Currently the Foundation has more than 500 branches in 50 countries.
Tzu Chi Foundation's headquarters is located in Taiwan's eastern coastal city Hualien. The first building in the now expansive complex was the Tzu Chi Jing Si Abode which began construction in 1968, just two years after the organization's founding. Tzu Chi Jing Si Abode (abode means residence) is considered the home to all Tzu Chi followers and volunteers around the world. Due to the organization's increased following and need for more space in their headquarters, the decision was made to construct a new building behind the original Tzu Chi Jing Si Abode. The 3-story steel framed structure houses multiple functions. The project was completed in 2011. |
